UPSKILLING REGIONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS FOR FILM PRODUCTION
active 1 year, 2 months ago1. Problem description
Film production involves a variety of services and professions beyond the core crew, such as for example catering, photography, location management, hairstyling, makeup, and more. These roles are essential for successful productions, but many people with these skills are unaware of the opportunities in film, or the specific demands of the industry. Currently, film schools primarily focus on technical filmmaking skills (director, producer, operator, artist etc), while these production related professions are largely excluded from formal film education.
Simultaneously, many young people in the CB remote regions possess relevant skills (e.g., catering, hairstyling, photograper, tourism guide etc) but struggle with unemployment or underemployment. One opportunity for them could be to offer their services to film producions, but they lack knowledge of how to adapt their services to the film industry or how to market themselves as freelance service providers.
At the same time filmmakers often struggle to find reliable, skilled professionals in these areas locally, and as a result, sometimes import talent from outside the region, creating a mismatch between available local talent and industry needs.
2. Project concept
The aim of this project is to bridge the gap between skilled service providers and the film industry by upskilling individuals and helping them understand the unique demands of film production. The project will offer tailored training to people in professions related to the film industry like for example catering, photography, hair and makeup, location management, teaching them how to adapt their skills for film production and how to start their own business.
