Autonomous demolition for safe and circular use of end-of-lifecycle buildings (AutoCIR)
active 2 weeks, 6 days agoThe project looks at novel ways to recover building materials from the end-of-lifecycle buildings with the use of autonomous and remote controlled robots. Safety plays a key concern in dangerous and hazardous demolition work, specifically regarding asbestos which could be removed using robotic solution and human-machine teaming. The project first investigates diverse typologies of buildings and demolition works in support of circularity and upcycling of materials by mapping the potential use cases and application in case studies. Second, the actual works will be investigated based on the principles of water jetting as an evolving dustless demolition method. Such approach holds potential to remove the contaminated building components inside the building for safe completed de-assembly. The final aim of the project is to test initially selected water-base demolition methods and plan the applicability at the large-scale building level.
