Recreate Composite recycling

active 3 weeks, 5 days ago

The use of biocomposites—materials combining biobased fibers with polymer matrices—has emerged as a promising alternative to conventional plastics. These materials offer the potential to reduce dependency on fossil-based plastics, mitigate CO₂ emissions, and support regional bioeconomies by incorporating locally available biomass, such as agricultural residues, reeds, algae, or forestry by-products.
However, while biocomposites represent a step toward more sustainable materials, they currently pose significant circularity challenges. The project aims to close the loop for biocomposite materials by redesigning their life cycle, promoting reuse, and creating cross-border circular systems in the Central Baltic region.
