Rural Enterprise Expansion Initiative
active 5 months, 3 weeks agoRationale for the project: In rural areas, many new small-scale companies are willing to scale up their businesses outside of the home market, however, the lack of knowledge indicates a potential barrier to realizing this ambition. These companies require guidance and support to fully exploit the outside-of-the-home market potential and achieve scale-up status. A dedicated project aimed at knowledge transfer, mentorship, and training can bridge this gap, empowering small companies to navigate the complexities of business expansion. Supporting the growth of small companies in rural areas aligns with broader regional economic development goals, there is a potential to create jobs, stimulate economic activity, and contribute to the overall prosperity of the region.
Aim of the project: The project will seek to support the growth of small-sized companies in rural regions, empowering them to expand their businesses beyond their local markets. This will be achieved by addressing areas such as knowledge gaps, marketing and branding strategies, exploring digital marketing opportunities, and providing practical assistance.
Target group: Newly established small-sized companies in rural areas facing challenges associated with scaling up and possessing the ambition to expand their businesses.
Need for cross-border cooperation and its added value: (1) Experience exchange of good practices in various countries how small business in rural areas can develop; (2) Cooperation and clustering of similar small businesses in various central Baltic countries.
Potential activities: (1) Setting up and implementation of a joint training programme for small-size companies for upskilling (including an e-training module and experience exchange visits of representatives from business support organizations in rural areas and small companies’ owners to gather the best practice experience of other countries). (2) Participation of small business companies with the presentation of their products in the different local events (for example Local Business days, markets, conferences) in other countries. (3) The role model (GUIDELINES) developed for local business support organizations active in rural areas how to support small businesses.
Expected results: At least 5 small companies in each participating country scaled-up.
Potential partner organisations: Business development (support) organizations (clusters, associations etc.) in other central Baltic programme areas operating in rural areas.
